Bob and Luci have been collecting minerals for over 50 years. Bob spent most of his working career as an aerospace engineer and is still a consultant to aerospace companies and the US Government. Luci also had a career in the aerospace industry and is listed in "Who's Who in National Female Executives." Bob and Luci have also been active in politics and are both listed in "Who's Who in American Politics." However, their real love has always been minerals, and much time has been devoted to both collecting and writing software. Bob and Luci now live on a mountaintop in the northeast corner of Washington in the middle of the most mineral-rich part of the state. Bob often takes fellow mineral enthusiasts to exciting local mineral deposits. Bob is a frequent contributor to the NW Mineral Federation's newsletter writing about his successful searches for mineral treasures. Minrls was originally a simple identification program written in 1975 in Techtronix Basic to avoid having to search through page-after-page of book data in order to identify what Bob and Luci had found. It was then distributed to fellow rockhounds and mineral collectors and finally prepared for distribution as Minrls 1.0. This initial version was written in DOS and did not contain pictures or other illustrations. Bob has left the same mineral identification routines in Minrls 2.0 and 3.0, but has expanded it many-fold to include the latest interactive Windows capability with hundreds of full-color photos and illustrations together with a number of mineralogy topics. While Version 3.0 is very large and contains nearly 1000 minerals, it will be continually refined and expanded into the foreseeable future to keep it the premier of mineral software programs.
